HMPA is a volunteer organization which thrives on committee activities. Being a committee member is the best way to get involved with the organization, and the networking opportunities offered through committee involvement are unlimited. HMPA encourages participation in one or more committees.

Our organization has several committees that work on different aspects of our mission and vision. You can browse a description of our committees below.

• Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Program Development - Schedules programs and speakers for our CLE events covering a wide range of substantive legal topics. These events occur on the second Tuesday of each month. Works with PHP, Membership and Social Committees on the annual celebration honoring Paralegals Day, Paralegal of the Year and Professional Houston Paralegals.
   
• Educational Liaison - Facilitates communication between paralegal education programs and HMPA. Coordinates visits with educational institutions to provide insight into the paralegal profession.

• Scholarships - Oversees all processes related to the HMPA Scholarship Reimbursement Fund. Works with Educational Liaison.

• Ethics - Ensures compliance with the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
   
• PHP - Awards PHP designation to qualified candidates. Works with Continuing Legal Education, Membership and Social Committees on the annual event honoring Paralegals Day, Paralegal of the Year and Professional Houston Paralegals.
   
• Membership - Promotes membership through membership drives, member services, membership directory, etc. Works with Continuing Legal Education, PHP and Social Committees on the annual event honoring Paralegals Day, Paralegal of the Year and Houston Professional Paralegals.
   
• Newsletter - produces a publication providing members with meeting dates, professional development and placement resources, pro bono opportunities and other news of special and general interest.
   
• Community Services - coordinates with other organizations to provide pro bono services in the community and organizes fundraising activities. 
   
• Professional Certification - maintains current information regarding certification testing and study groups and keeps abreast of developments in the profession.
   
• Employment Relations - maintains the HMPA Job Bank and liaisons with Affiliate Recruiter members to provide active job listings. 
   
• Public Relations - plays crucial role in shaping a positive image of the legal profession within the business and legal communities. Our PR team not only focuses on reputation management but also handles merchandising activities. From strategic communication to event promotion, we ensure that our profession is well-represented and that our messaging resonates effectively.   

• Social - plans social activities, and works with Continuing Legal Education, PHP, and Membership Committees on the annual event honoring Paralegals Day, Paralegal of the Year and Houston Professional Paralegals. Also provides networking opportunities for the legal community.
